what are we?
Are we really machines? Is it true that we are just robots that whatever the media tells us to like, want and buy we do? In one of my classes we were talking about what we do is because of the media’s influence. When you really think about it, it is true. Every time we see something that is faster, bigger, better we want it without really thinking if we need it. Let me talk about cars for a second, when they first came out they were because of making things faster now that we have them, we do not see them as a need but as something that we need to show off to people. What we have now because of cars is global warming in other words we are killing the world ourselves, and instead of getting to places faster we get to places slower because of traffic, because everyone has a car now. I am a huge shoe fan and before I started work and realized to get money is not that easy, I brought shoes without really thinking about it. And that is true we buy things without thinking if first we have the money to waste on shoes that you probably won’t wear and second do we really need those extra pair, or is just someone telling buy, buy and you do. One of my professors was talking how society today is so much about technology. Every time you see someone you see them text, or on the phone, if they want food all they have to do is go to the store and buy it. So he was saying if we had to live in the wilderness the “nature”, many of us won’t know what to do or where to begin to survive on ourselves and not then need for technology. In a way we have lost what makes us humans because in a way we are very much becoming like machines when we do not care about the outside world, or about each other, all we care is about satisfying our need and being comfortable. hello! i just read your post which go me thinking again! i always think before I do anything , i wonder how come people are complaining about global warming and yet build more cars that contribute to the problem. i absolutely agree with the fact that media has significant influence on our society, effecting on the way we think on what we need. i do question your thinking on comparing us with machines though. you give out two ways to show how we are similar to machines but i think only one of them make sense. your example of the media controlling us makes more sense. you also say we are like machines cuz all we care about is satisfying our needs. even with that, i think you wrote an excellent post. keep it up and i will leave more comments.
